Wild in the City
Got the dog out to Confederation Park, and some late winter sun poked through. This kind of thing knocks the edge off a stressful day and makes me forget about deadlines.
New research (and probably old research) tells us that going for a walk in a natural setting like a city park or even a boulevard with trees or grass or flowers helps us in many healthy ways. If you shut off your phone, or better yet leave it at home, you’ll enjoy some rare quiet time unconnected with the distractions of beeps and bloops and Siri. You might feel the wind on your face. You might look up and see the evening light on tree bark. You might hear the twack-twack of a woodpecker looking for bugs.
National Geographic recently published a beautiful story about the healing power of nature. You can read it here.
